Why is it so hard to maintain a healthy weight? While it may sound like a simple decision to make, it's about much more than willpower. Our biology and metabolism often work against us, as our bodies are evolutionarily designed to conserve energy. At the same time, factors like stress, sleep, and emotions greatly influence our eating habits.
We also live in a society where we are constantly exposed to temptations – high-calorie, highly processed foods designed to trigger our reward system. Busy weekdays make it even harder to prioritize healthy cooking. Social norms and social media also play a role and can reinforce unhealthy patterns and lead to stigma and shame, especially if healthy habits were not instilled early in life.
There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Our needs change throughout life, and it is perfectly normal for weight to fluctuate. The key is to find a balance that works for you, and accept that perfect control is neither realistic nor necessary.
