Interest in ketones and their possible beneficial effects has increased in recent years, but do they work in sports, or is it just hype?

With one host who has written a Ph.D. on ketones (Thien), and the other host who eagerly tests it on his own body (Mathias), we have good conditions to dive into this exciting topic.

We explain when you are physiologically in ketosis and what a ketone actually is. We discuss the two major aspects of ketones and performance:  

  1. As an alternative energy substrate for the body, primarily to save glucose.

  2. As a means that can increase our recovery measured by glycogen levels and impact on muscle tissue.

We also turn to how ketones can possibly make you feel less tired and even stimulate the formation of EPO?!

Finally, we turn our attention to other areas of ketone research. In which diseases might there be more evidence that ketones can actually work?
